OUR PAST

HISTORY

The Journey Begins

The Agola Kapuk North America (AKNA) is more than just an organization; it's a living tapestry of culture and heritage. Our story begins over three centuries ago when our ancestors, belonging to the larger Lou ethnic group, migrated from central Sudan to various parts of East Africa, including South Sudan, Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.

The Struggle

Our community has faced numerous challenges, including religious and political persecution, as well as warfare. These adversities led many of us to seek refuge in North America, particularly in the United States and Canada, since the early 1990s. Today, we are a strong community of over 7,000 members.

THE STEPS

Looking Ahead

As we move forward, we remain committed to our mission and vision, continually adapting to meet the evolving needs of our community. We invite you to be a part of our journey, to empower and be empowered. In the near future, we aim to expand our reach by collaborating with other organizations, government agencies, and educational institutions. This will allow us to tap into a broader range of resources and expertise, thereby enhancing the quality and impact of our programs.

Moreover, we are in the process of developing new initiatives that focus on technology-driven solutions for community development. We believe that leveraging technology can significantly improve access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities for our members. These initiatives will not only benefit our community in North America but also have the potential to make a meaningful impact in the regions of Africa where our roots lie. Through these efforts, we aspire to set a benchmark for community-led development, both locally and globally.
