Agola Kapuk
North America

Welcome to the official website of the Agola Kapuk North America (AKNA). We are a community-based organization composed of members from the larger Acholi Sudanese community residing in North America. Our members are part of the Lou ethnic group and are descendants of various Lou-speaking people who migrated more than three centuries ago from central Sudan to countries such as South Sudan, Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. Our community is known for its unique and famous traditional heritage and cultures, which are highly admired throughout East Africa.

ABOUT US

Our Mission

Our mission is to empower our members to attain economic stability and social well-being in North America and abroad. As part of the larger South Sudanese refugees who migrated to the USA and Canada since the early 1990s, our members were forced to flee their native country due to religious, political persecution and warfare perpetuated by more than 40 years of civil wars between the people of Southern Sudan, mainly from African ethnic backgrounds, and the Northern regime, which is predominantly of Arabian origins.
